Topic for lit paper...

I'm thinking about writing my paper on teen suicide. It's the third leading cause for people ages 15-24, which is huge - and those kinds of deaths are devastating for everyone in the situation. Granted, death is hard all around - but suicide really hits you hard if you knew them. You think, did I do anything wrong? How could I not see it coming? Women are three times more likely to commit suicide, but men are three times more effective in actually succeeding. Which ends up with a fairly equal number of successful attempts between the sexes.
Suicide is a very personal topic for me, I've known people who tried, and one who succeeded, and even closer to home than even that.
At such a young age, it's easier to not comprehend the consequences of such a fatal action - death is often romanticized. I consider suicide to be an incredibly selfish act.

  1. Well, it seems like I am always commenting on yours. Even though we are supposed to switch it up I can always relate to your blog. Suicide is something that is very important to know about it today's society. It can happen to anybody, no matter what age, sex, race, or gender they are. Many of my closest friends have attempted suicide and it hurts you more than anything! The fact that they don't want to be here anymore shows that they truly are not happy. People say it's just an attempt for attention, but sometimes stress gets to you and your past the phase of wanting attention. Suicide is an act of selfishness but depends on which way you look at it. For leaving and hurting the people you love because your life was not what you wanted...that's selfish. If you look into their head, they consider it selfish to live unhappy and cause the world pain (in some eyes).
